What was supposed to be a 8 hour drive turned into about a 14 hour one! First, somewhere in NJ our camper blew a tire. Pretty scary when you are on the interstate and packing so much weight! My husband was able to save the day and changed the tire on the RV. Back on the road we went headed through New York City. Andrew did not want to drive through the city, but we really wanted to see it! It is always exciting seeing the city even if you are not stopping. I am glad we did it, but we would not do it again!
It took 3 hours to get onto the George Washington Bridge that goes from NJ to NY. When we finally got up to the toll to pay they charged $40 for our camper to pass! They totally charged us wrong, but there was no point in trying to argue at such a busy toll station. In fact, the 3 hour wait was just to go through the toll line.
We went in out merry way gladly collecting stickers for our New England travels when in CT we heard another pop noise. My husband pulled over to see what it was, and sure enough it was another blown tire on the camper. This time on the other side. It was about 6 on a Saturday night and every tire place was closed. We no longer had a spare because we used the spare when we blew the first tire. We unhitched the car from the camper and drove to a Walmart. I have never been so happy to have a Walmart in my entire life! They were able to fix our tire in about 20 minutes when every other place was closed! We were soon back on our way and headed to Maine. It was fun to pass through some other big cities along the way like Bosoton. They were setting off fireworks when we drove by, and that seemed very appropriate for Boston! We finally rolled into Maine in the middle of the night and I could not believe how freezing it was there for late June! Updating on our visit to Maine in our next post!
